Bertha Booker is a self-taught fiddler who only discovered her love of traditional Appalachian and Irish music
after graduating from college, when she began playing for contra dances. A former member of Donnybrook Legacy,
she has attended numerous fiddle workshops and festivals in the US and abroad, including the Augusta Heritage
Festival, Swannanoa Gathering and Willie Clancy Week. She also spent four months traveling and playing in the
west of Ireland. A strong proponent of learning traditional music “by ear,” Ms. Booker currently leads an Irish
session in Charleston and offers private lessons for adult beginning fiddlers.
